Environmental Management IMP receives awards and Honorable Mention

Hospital Luxemburgo received an honorable mention in the “Amigo Amigo do Meio Ambiente 2020” award. The award, created by the Secretary of Health of the State of São Paulo, with technical support from the Health Surveillance Center, is intended for health institutions that develop environmental projects within the scope of the Unified Health Service (SUS), emphasizes Mário’s efforts It is worth maintaining good practices in the health sector and protecting public and environmental health.

Based on two projects, Mário Penna was recognized for his efforts. The first was the “Reintegrar Project”, sponsored by the Association of Volunteers of Associação Mário Penna (VOLMAPE), which produces organic foods that are provided to patients such as parsley, chives, lettuce, corn, tomatoes, pumpkin, among others .

To assist in the development of this project, awareness of the surrounding community was created, through the involvement of students from schools and local businesses.

“The Reintegrar Project is very important to Instituto Mário Penna, as it brings an economically and environmentally sustainable vision. In the lot that is in front of the institution, it is possible to reuse the waste generated, transforming it into fertilizer and, from that, generating a high quality production and an entirely organic product for our patients”; explains João Augusto Viana Ferreira, technical responsible for the Environment sector.

The second project carried out is intended to reduce accidents with sharps. For this, a sectorial visual indicator was created in order to motivate the employee to carry out the correct disposal, monitor the disposal process throughout the institution, contribute to the social and environmental issue and offer an even safer environment for patients and caregivers.

Due to the good adhesion of employees and the reduction of accidents by 50%, the campaign became a permanent process at Hospital Luxemburgo, with guidance and assistance from the Environmental Management sector to adapt processes and identify the risk conditions identified in the areas , in order to eradicate the number of accidents in the coming years.

With these and other projects, Mário Penna strives more and more to deliver a safe, sustainable and excellent service to its patients and employees.

Meet IMP’s Palliative Care Service

The Mário Penna Institute, through the National Oncology Care Support Program (PRONON), started at the end of 2020 the Palliative Care Service (SCP), which aims to boost the organization and development of Palliative Care in the institution and in Brazil.

IMP’s Palliative Care Service works in a multidisciplinary way, with the work of doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists and physiotherapists. Specialists from different areas work together to ensure that patients with serious and life-threatening illnesses are treated comprehensively in the various dimensions of suffering (physical, psychological, social and spiritual), always aiming at quality of life and respecting people’s values answered.

“We understand that in addition to patients, family members, friends and caregivers also suffer in the context of illness and must be welcomed and respected. They have a special place in the Palliative Care Service”; emphasizes Graziella Eugênio Tocafundo, Coordinating Nurse of the Palliative Care Service at IMP.

The appointments take place at the Hospital Luxemburgo, in the inpatient unit, when requested by the assistant teams, and in the offices of the Center for Oncological Specialties (NEP).

Graziella also explains that the Ministry of Health regulates the provision of Palliative Care as part of continuous care integrated within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS), which is a right for every citizen affected by a life-threatening disease, whether acute or chronic .

Pink October: Mário Penna Institute patients participate in action at the MRV Arena

The Instituto Mário Penna’s Pink October actions are in full swing. In partnership with Instituto Galo, this Wednesday, the 13th, it was time to take the message of breast cancer prevention to the MRV Arena.

The president of Instituto Mário Penna, Marco Antônio Viana Leite, along with 11 breast cancer patients (As Entrelaçadas, a support group formed by women warriors who share their experiences), visited Atlético’s future “home”, where they were welcomed by mascot Galo Doido and by members of the board of the team and the Galo Institute.

They participated in a technical visit with a simulation of how the team’s stadium will work and, at the end, each one who was present received a pink balloon to write a message about Pink October. Soon after, they were directed to the construction deck and released the balloons in an atmosphere of hope, faith and a lot of joy.

“This partnership is very important. With this union, we were able to reach more people and help prevent and fight breast cancer. Bringing patients here, and hearing the reports, is very exciting. This gives us even more strength to continue in the daily struggle for an increasingly better and more humanized treatment”; says Marco Antônio.

Interlaced carry out Pink October actions with IMP partners

Several partners embraced Instituto Mário Penna’s Pink October campaign and carried out awareness-raising actions for the prevention of breast cancer.

Last Monday afternoon, October 25th, Mário Penna’s team was at Precon, in Pedro Leopoldo, for a chat with the company’s employees. Eliane Fraga, a patient from Entrelaçadas (the IMP’s support group for women with breast cancer) told a little about her fight against the disease, talked about the difficulties of recovery, and emphasized the importance of prevention and the annual mammography.

At the Training and Emergency Center (CUREM), two patients from the Interlaced group were responsible for sending a message about the importance of preventive exams and giving personal testimony about how they faced and are recovering from breast cancer.

Another cool event that had the participation of three patients in the group was the Encounter of Motorcycle Ride Beneficent.

They not only talked to the women who were there, but also witnessed the sale of bandanas by motorcyclists, which had 100% of the amount allocated to Instituto Mário Penna to help in the treatment of cancer patients.

Is that you? Have you had your mammogram or other preventive exam this year?
Don’t be left out of this campaign. Participate and share!

Colégio Marista distributes Cofrinhos do Bem do IMP to students

Coin by coin, we save lives. This is how the Mário Penna Institute’s Cofrinho do Bem works. Colégio Marista Dom Silvério also believes in this and decided to support the action and practice solidarity with the participation of its students. About 600 children, aged between 5 and 11, were given a piggy bank last week to take home and start collecting the coins.

In the school auditorium, a theater with playful characters such as Rei Leão and Minions performed Cofrinho do Bem for the kids, explaining the importance of the donation to Instituto Mário Penna.

Parents received a letter from the school explaining the action and showing how they can participate and encourage their children. Now, each child has the task of collecting the coins and returning them to Mário Penna at the end of the year.

“I made a point of following every action closely. I even played with the characters and also talked to the children about the importance of helping those who are sick and in need of our help. I believe that this action is also a way of educating children for solidarity and for the community. As the campaign motto says, you deposit coins and we invest in hope in Mário Penna”; account Paula Fraga, from IMP’s Fundraising and Relationship.
